WAYS TEACHING FELLOWS CAN SERVE AT YOUR SCHOOL

AFTER SCHOOL

We staff over 2,500 Teaching Fellows at over 530 schools in over 20 districts throughout the Central Valley. Afterschool program tutors provide everything from academics, homework support, to enrichment activities, social and emotional support and serving snacks! Afterschool programs typically operate Monday - Friday, from the final school bell until 6pm or approximately 2-6pm. Afterschool is fast paced, fun, filled with opportunities for teamwork, leadership, community collaboration, and expanded young people's horizons. After school tutors plan academic lessons, enrichment activities, school and student safety, creating welcoming environments and are responsible for leading a class of approximately 20 students.

SCHOOL TIME

Over 500 of our regular day/intra-day tutors (sometimes referred to as “morning program” tutors) serve in a similar capacity to a teacher’s aide and may support with english language arts, science, bilingual education and/or math. Schools choose to push Teaching Fellows into classrooms under the tutelage of a credentialed teacher, or utilize Teaching Fellows for pull out for supervised interventions. Teaching Fellows offers a cost effective way to help your students succeed, while helping an aspiring educator receive valuable hands-on classroom experience. Regular day tutors typically work four to five days per week for 3 to 4 hours per day. Shifts vary from mornings, mid day, and afternoons. Regular day tutors gain knowledge about targeted interventions, individual and small group supports, lesson planning, classroom management, leadership, equity, and social and emotional supports.

SUMMER & WINTER

We can provide customizable support to your school’s summer or winter programming, with a focus on academics, enrichment, STE(A)M, or all three. Tutors who work during summer and or winter sessions typically enjoy four per day for one to five weeks while the normal school is on recess. Programs focus on academics and enrichment and present incredible opportunities for staff and student growth.

BEFORE SCHOOL

We staff over 400 Teaching Fellows in before-school programs. Before school tutors support with everything they would in an afterschool setting, it just takes place before that first bell rings! Before-school programs are typically 1-2 hours per day, Monday - Friday. Before school tutors learn about classroom and behavior management, activity planning, school and student safety, and creating supportive environments.

AIDES

Need assistance covering class transitions, breaks, before school, or intra-day meal periods, consider using Teaching Fellows in this space, especially if you already have Teaching Fellows on your campus for day or after school programs. Noon-Time Tutors typically work for an hour per day, five days per week. Existing after school or regular day tutors make great candidates for these opportunities. Noon-time Tutors deepen their understanding of school and student safety, large group student observations, school climate and culture, appropriate student activities and much more.

AVID

Have an AVID program at your school site? Teaching Fellows tutors make great AVID tutors, just ask the dozens of schools sites in the Central Valley that use Teaching Fellows as AVID tutors. What’s more, many current Teaching Fellows were AVID students at their schools. AVID tutors support single and small groups of students in their pursuits of goals and dreams. These programs are typically 2-3 hours per day and can be perfect for Teaching Fellows who do not have five day availability. AVID Tutors learn about goal setting, behavior management, leadership, social and emotional support, and academic support.
